Earning at Events
LiveHow event check-ins work, how rewards are dispatched, and what happens at the reader.
The core member action is showing up. When you check in at an event, the program verifies your presence and dispatches rewards to your badge. This page explains how that flow works.
The check-in flow
- You arrive. Find the check-in reader — usually at the entrance, at a stage, or at an activation point.
- Present your badge. Show your badge card's barcode to the reader. The barcode rotates every 30 seconds; the reader accepts the current or previous window.
- Reader verifies. The reader decodes your identifier, verifies your badge state (can be offline via SPV), and confirms you haven't already checked in for this session.
- Check-in recorded. The program records your presence. This is the event that triggers rewards.
- Rewards dispatched. The program's reward configuration determines the base amount. Base reward × your status multiplier = what you receive. The reward lands in your wallet immediately.
What triggers rewards
Reward triggers are configured by the operator. Common triggers:
- Entry check-in. Arrive at the event and scan at the door.
- Stage check-in. Scan at a specific stage or activation point.
- Closing ceremony. Stay until the end; scan at the wrap-up.
- Challenge milestones. Complete steps in a multi-part challenge.
- Special activations. Scan at sponsor booths, VIP areas, or bonus locations.
Status multiplier in action
Your status level multiplies the base reward. Suppose the program awards 100 in rewards for a stage check-in:
- 1× status → 100 rewards
- 1.5× status → 150 rewards
- 2× status → 200 rewards
- 3× status → 300 rewards
The multiplier applies automatically. You don't need to do anything special — just have a higher status tier. Status is a combination of when you joined (your cohort) and how active you've been (your activity tier).
Duplicate check-in protection
You can only check in once per session or per trigger (depending on program configuration). If you scan again at the same reader for the same session, the reader will acknowledge you but not dispatch additional rewards.
Offline scenarios
The reader can verify your badge offline using SPV proofs. If the venue has no internet:
- Your check-in is recorded locally on the reader.
- When connectivity returns, the check-in is synced to the program.
- Rewards are dispatched at sync time.
You might not see the reward immediately in your wallet if you're also offline, but it will appear once both sides reconnect.
Troubleshooting
- Barcode not scanning. Make sure it's the current code (refreshes every 30 seconds). Adjust brightness. Clean the screen.
- Reader shows "already checked in." You've already scanned for this session. No additional rewards.
- Reward didn't appear. Pull to refresh your wallet. If still missing after 5 minutes, contact the event staff or HeartBadge support.
